Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar from UAE Team Emirates won the coveted yellow jersey twice with back-to-back victories at the Tour de France, and he’s the early betting favorite to win Le Tour 2022 at +110 odds.
The 2022 Tour de France is set to begin with a Grand Depart in Copenhagen, Denmark on July 1 and end on July 24 in Paris.
Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma), who was the runner-up in 2020, had to drop out of the 2021 race after a gnarly crash during the opening stages in Brittany. Roglic is the second favorite on the cycling futures board behind Pogacar at +220 odds to win the yellow jersey at the 2022 Tour de France.

Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) finished in second place in the 2021 Tour de France and only 5:20 behind Pogacar in the general classification, but he’s the third favorite on the futures board at +600 odds to win Le Tour 2022.
Repeat champs: Bernal, Thomas, Froome
Egan Bernal, the 2019 Tour de France champion from Ineos Grenadiers, is +900 odds to win a second yellow jersey. Bernal skipped the 2021 Tour de France so he could focus on the Giro d’Italia instead. The star from Colombia ended up winning the pink jersey in dominating fashion, securing his second major victory on the Grand Tour.
Bernal only needs to win the Vuelta a Espana (aka the Tour of Spain) to secure a Grand Tour triple crown, which has only been achieved by six other cyclists. Bernal, 24, is chasing history as he attempts to break the record as the youngest rider to win a cycling triple crown.
The big question looming in 2022 is will Bernal and Team Ineos focus on Spain instead of France this summer? The 2022 Vuelta is held in late August, so it’s yet to be determined if he’ll seek a second yellow jersey at the Tour de France or bypass Le Tour in favor of chasing a victory at the Vuelta.
Geraint Thomas, the 2018 champion from Ineos Grenadiers, will most likely be a support rider for teammate Richard Carapaz in 2021. But weirder things have happened, especially when the Le Tour reaches the mountain stages. Thomas is +2200 odds to win his second yellow jersey.
Chris Froome, a four-time champion, is trying to achieve immortality with a fifth yellow jersey. He’s been fighting multiple injuries over the past few years and he’s no longer the highly-skilled rider he was before all of his injuries piled up. Froome now rides for Israel Start-Up Nation and is a long shot at +10000 odds to win Le Tour 2022.
Ghost of the Badger, Superman, and other long shots
A French rider hasn’t won the Tour de France since the Badger locked up his fifth yellow jersey. Bernard Hinulat is the last Frenchman to stand on the top step of the podium in Paris, which happened in 1985 when he edged out teammate Greg LeMond. It’s been 36 years and counting since France claimed a Le Tour champion.
Over the past few years, the daring and enigmatic Julian Alaphilippe made his home country fall in love with pro cycling again. Alaphilippe held the yellow jersey for a couple of days over the last two years on Le Tour, but could never retain it for the long haul. Alaphilippe is a long shot at +10000 odds to win Le Tour, but keep an eye on him to excel in individual stage wins.
Thibaut Pinot is the highest French rider on the board at +8000 odds to win the 2022 Tour de France, followed by David Gaudu at +8000.
Miguel Angel Lopez is known as Superman in the peloton, but the Spanish rider from team Astana is a long shot at +8000 odds.
