College football fans get a four-game slate for New Year’s Day, as we say goodbye to a terrible 2020 and hope for a better 2021. In addition to the two College Football Playoff semifinals, Auburn takes on Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl while Georgia plays Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl. Oddsmakers expect more firepower in the Ohio State-Clemson and Alabama-Notre Dame games, but some selective pieces of the other two contests might prove worthwhile in DFS contests.
Take a look at these six for Friday:
Quarterbacks
Mac Jones, Alabama ($8,700 on DraftKings, $10,400 on FanDuel) – The likely Heisman winner seems to have only gotten better as the season has progressed. Bama is the oddsmakers’ favorite to score the most points on Friday and Jones’ arm should account for his share of TDs.
JT Daniels, Georgia ($7,300 on DK, $8,300 on FD) – The Arizona State transfer has proven solid since taking over the starting role, throwing for 839 yards and nine touchdowns with just one interception. The Cincy defense is tough, but it’s hard not to like Daniels at this price.
Running back
Tank Bigsby, Auburn ($5,600 on DK, $7,400 on FD) – When he’s healthy, Auburn happily feeds Bigsby the ball. Just witness his 26 carries for 192 yards against Mississippi State in the regular-season finale. The tailback should see plenty of action in an expected close and low-scoring matchup against Northwestern.
Gerrid Doaks, Cincinnati ($4,400 on DK, $6,200 on FD) – Doaks missed the second half of the AAC Championship with a leg injury, but recently said he’s feeling good and likely to play in the Peach Bowl. It’s worth monitoring his status closer to kickoff, but if he’s healthy then Doaks is a steal at this price. If Doaks can’t go, just plug in Jerome Ford ($4,600 and $6,000) at virtually the same salary.
Wide receiver
DeVonta Smith, Alabama ($9,000 on DK, $11,500 on FD) – Perhaps no player on Friday has more ability to break the slate than Smith, the first wide receiver in years to get true consideration for the Heisman. Smith has averaged nearly 40 DFS points per game on DraftKings over his past five games. That includes 15 catches for 184 yards and two TDs in the SEC Championship. Let’s not forget that it was Smith that caught the winning touchdown pass in the 2018 National Championship game against Georgia so he seems to rise to the occasion.
Eli Stove, Auburn ($4,100 on DK, $5,600 on FD) – Auburn’s top receiver Anthony Schwartz appears to be opting out of the Citrus Bowl in preparation for entering the NFL Draft. Seth Williams ($5,000 and $6,200) in theory should be the No. 1 receiver, but Stove has comparable stats on the season despite missing more time with injury. Plus, he’s cheaper.
