How to grow a bankroll in blackjack
Lesson description
Don't rely on big wagers or scammy betting strategies to grow your bankroll. Learn responsible, sustainable approaches to build your money pot with Mr Blackjack’s goal-setting and planning methods.
Players always want to know tips that will grow their bankroll, fast. Unfortunately, there are no secret tricks to getting more money from the casino, but the following tips will help you save more towards your bankroll.
To grow your bankroll you first need to change your way of thinking. You need to think monthly and even yearly instead of daily.
Like any business, you will have bad days and bad months. Overall though, you need to look at the big picture and see if your business is a profitable one.
Set realistic goals based on your bankroll and mitigate risk versus reward. For instance:
- Your nightly goal should be to 3x your nightly bankroll
- Your monthly goal should be to 2x your bankroll
- Your yearly goal should be to 10x your bankroll
Use the 5-10% rule with your bet sizing in relation to your current stack. You will ensure that your upside has enough potential to grow, and your downside is capped.
Also, use 10% of your overall bankroll rule for buy-in and 10% rebuy to determine your nightly roll. I give more detail on this in season three, episode three.
It's always a good idea to use a spreadsheet to track your wins and losses on any given night. Even if it's only $10, it needs to be tracked.
Some players will tell you that they play casino bonuses and side bets at the blackjack tables to grow their bankroll; that is true in some cases.
In the long run, these players will not become winning players. A one-in-a-million Royal Flush on the side bet with a $10K payout does not happen to everyone. Most players will not tell you about the losses they have, but only the big wins. Always keep that in mind.
If you follow these rules and apply the lessons you have learned throughout this series (from basic strategy, expected value, Ace tracking, and card counting) you will finish the marathon as a winning player, and thus your bankroll will grow.
