Blackjack Variants
Lesson description
There are many blackjack games in casinos, but should you play them all? Learn why casinos create these games and how they drain your bankroll with Mr Blackjack.
Over the years many different blackjack games have been created. Players assume they're all the same, but I have a story I want to share with you on this.
I’m 21 years old, walking through Harrah’s Casino in Vegas. And I blow $300 in about 20 minutes playing this game that looked exciting, but I had no idea how to play and what the house edge was.
The dealer probably noticed that I felt helpless, and he leans in and says to me, 'Stay away from the "carnie" games. Stick to blackjack, your odds are better.'
I was young and stupid and didn’t know what a carnie game was. A carnie game is a flashy game that draws you in with next to no chance of winning.
In this series, we’re going to show you games that may be fun to play, but when you alter the blackjack rules, the house edge sky-rockets. If you're looking to profit from your gameplay, you should avoid them at all costs.
The other reason we created this series is that I want to teach you why the house edge is increasing based on some of these common rule changes in blackjack variations:
- When the dealer busts
- When the dealer hits
- When cards are removed from the deck
All of this affects the odds of the game. By understanding why some cards are more important than others or why some rules are crucial to a player's edge, you'll be able to apply all this knowledge to card counting and start making smarter decisions at the blackjack table faster.
What this lesson covers
- How rule changes affect the house edge
- Whether you should play blackjack variants
- How these games affect your odds of winning
