Michael Gallup, the #3 wide receiver from the Dallas Cowboys, suffered a serious knee injury in a three-point loss against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
The Cowboys had their worst fears come to fruition after Gallup a underwent an MRI on Monday morning, which confirmed a torn ACL.
In nine games this season, Gallup caught 35 receptions for 445 yards and two touchdowns. In Week 1, Gallup left the season-opener early with a calf injury. He missed seven games this season before he returned to action in the second half of the season.
Against the Cardinals in Week 17, Gallup caught three passes for 26 yards and a touchdown before he suffered a season-ending knee injury. The ACL tear occurred on a 21-yard touchdown reception from Dak Prescott to Gallup late in the second quarter. Replays indicated that Gallup’s left knee buckled as he landed after the touchdown catch.
Gallup was an important part of the Cowboys’ talented receiving corps that includes Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and tight end Dalton Schultz.
Without Gallup in the lineup in Week 18 and the postseason, head coach Michael McCarthy will rely on Cedrick Wilson as the next man up. Wilson filled in for Gallup earlier this season when he had a calf injury. The Cowboys took a flier on Boise State’s Wilson with a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In 15 games this season, Wilson caught 40 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns.
Gallup becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. The Cowboys selected Gallup out of Colorado State with a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In 55 career games with the Cowboys, Gallup caught 15 touchdowns and racked up 193 receptions and 2,902 receiving yards. Gallup peaked during his second season in the NFL in 2019, when he caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns.
