NFL teams with a cat mascot are 0-12 since a stray black cat ran onto the field during a Monday Night Football telecast between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants in early November. The MNF cat jinxed cat teams, along with the Giants and Cowboys.
This feline nugget of NFL betting information appeared on reddit by user “Duval11,” who posted a meme joking about how teams with cat mascots are a combined 0-12 since the viral moment on Nov. 4, 2019.
Overall, cat mascot teams are a combined 12-32-1. None of the cat teams have a winning record, and three teams are in last place in their respective divisions. The winless Bengals are 0-11, and aren’t expected to win any time soon.
Since MNF Black Cat Appearance
Detroit Lions 0-4
Carolina Panthers 0-3
Cincinnati Bengals 0-3
Jacksonville Jaguars 0-2
During a Monday Night Football game during Week 9, a stray black cat scampered onto the field at MetLife Stadium. Announcers had a fun time commentating on the black cat during a momentary delay as stadium staff tried to chase the feline off the playing surface. The black cat became an instant celebrity and viral hit on social media.
Sad Cats 0-12
The Detroit Lions (3-8-1) lost on Thanksgiving with a third-string QB at the helm, extending their losing streak to five games. Since MNF on Nov. 4, the Lions are 0-4.
The Cincinnati Bengals (0-11) have yet to win a game this season, and are 0-3 since the black cat appeared on MNF. They Bengals are a +3 home dog hosting the New York Jets on Sunday. The Jets are hot and riding a three-game winning streak. Bengals head coach, Zac Taylor thought benching Andy Dalton in favor of rookie Ryan Finley would jump start the team. The move failed, and Dalton returns to the lineup.
The Jacksonville Jaguars (4-7) had a late bye week, and have only played two games since their game in London. The Jags have lost three in a row. They’re 0-2 since the black cat became Internet famous, and since Nick Foles returned to the lineup, and Gardner Minshew returned to the bench. The Jags are a +2.5 home dog this week against Tampa Bay.
The Carolina Panthers (5-6) are in the middle of a three-game skid, but they have a chance to snap their losing streak and end the Monday Night Football black cat jinx. The Panthers host the Washington Redskins (2-9) as a 10-point favorite. Two of the Panther’s last three losses were close, including an 8-point loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. The Panthers were smoked by the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11. Last weekend, the Panthers lost a 34-31 nail-biter in the Superdome against the New Orleans Saints.
Giants and Cowboys Also Jinxed?
Both teams that appeared on the fateful Monday Night Football broadcast also seem to be hexed. The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are a combined 1-5 since the MNF cat game.
The Giants (2-9) lost to the Dallas Cowboys (6-6) on Monday Night Football, and lost two games since then to see their overall losing streak extend to seven in a row. The Giants are a home dog this week with the Green Bay Packers coming to town. The Pack are favored to win by at least a touchdown.

The Cowboys are 1-3 since the MNF game, with their only win coming against a cat team with a 35-27 victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 11. The Cowboys were embarrassed on Thanksgiving when the visiting Buffalo Bills kicked their proverbial butts all over the Jerry Dome.
